- Injury report: For the Raptors, Jordan Loyd (coach’s decision) is listed as out. For the Warriors, Kevin Durant (right calf strain), and Kevon Looney (right 1st costal cartilage non-displaced fracture) are listed as out. Klay Thompson (left hamstring strain) is listed as questionable.

- On the road: The Raptors are in Golden State to play Games 3 and 4 of the 2019 NBA Finals at Oracle Arena. Toronto is currently 4-4 on the road in this year’s postseason and have won at least one road game in each of their previous three playoff series. Game 3 is set for Wednesday, June 5 at 9 P.M. ET, while Game 4 will be played Friday, June 7, also at 9 P.M. ET. Because this series started on the road for Golden State, the Warriors have not played a game on their home floor since May 16 when they defeated the Portland Trail Blazers at Oracle in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals.  - Recent History: The Raptors dropped a 109-104 decision to the Warriors in Game 2 on Sunday. Thanks to a 25-point performance from Klay Thompson, a 23-point performance from Steph Curry, and a 17-point, 10-rebound, nine-assist performance from Draymond Green, Golden State tied the series up at one game apiece. Though Toronto led throughout the first half, the Warriors won the third quarter 34-21, and went into the fourth ahead by eight. Toronto fought its way back down the stretch and a three-pointer from Danny Green had the team within two with 26.9 seconds remaining, but Andre Iguodala drilled a three-pointer with seven seconds on the clock to give the Warriors a five-point lead and seal the Golden State victory. - Ring it up: Kawhi Leonard has been great on the boards all postseason, pulling down a career-high 17 rebounds in Toronto’s Game 6 win against the Milwaukee Bucks. He was at it again in Game 2, grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds to go with his 34 points, three assists, a block and a steal. “He's a strong player,” Marc Gasol said. “If you want to win at a high level, no matter how strong you are, you have to play like you're really strong and that you have to win every physical battle. When you're on the ball, off the ball, the successful players, they might not be the strongest ones, but they act and believe that they're the strongest “ Leonard is averaging 30.9 points and 9.1 rebounds per game in the postseason. He also set an NBA Finals record for most free throws made without a miss in a playoff game by shooting 16-for-16 from the line in Game 2. Leonard’s 618 points through 20 playoff games this season is the third-highest point total since 2000-01, trailing only LeBron James (2018) and Allen Iverson (2001).

- Bet on yourself: Fred VanVleet was Toronto’s second-leading scorer in Game 2, contributing 17 points off the bench while also guarding Steph Curry on the defensive end of the floor. After the game, his effort earned praise from Raptors head coach Nick Nurse. “[Getting] 17 points from [Fred] is great and running the team the way he did is great,” Nurse said. “Obviously he’s working hard on defence, too, guarding Curry.” VanVleet has been huge for the Raptors off the bench, scoring at least 10 points in five consecutive games dating back to Game 4 against the Milwaukee Bucks. This isn’t anything new or surprising, as the Warriors have made a habit of dominating third quarters this season. - Home floor: The Raptors host the Warriors for Game 2 of the 2019 NBA Finals at Scotiabank Arena. Thanks to Thursday’s Game 1 victory, the Raptors have tied a franchise record by winning five consecutive playoff games, something they also did earlier this postseason when they won four straight against the Orlando Magic in Round 1 followed by Game 1 against the Philadelphia 76ers in Round 2.

- Recent History: The Raptors came out strong in the team’s first NBA Finals game in franchise history and walked off the court with a 118-109 victory and a 1-0 series lead against the Warriors. Toronto used solid defence to weather a rough-shooting first quarter, leading by four after one, 10 at the half, and seven points heading into the fourth. In the final frame, the Warriors wouldn’t get any closer than seven as the Raptors answered each attempt at a run by Golden State. Toronto shot 51 percent in Game 1, holding the Warriors to 44 percent as Pascal Siakam led five Raptors in double figures with 32 points. Kawhi Leonard added 23 points and Marc Gasol scored 20. The Warriors were led by Steph Curry who scored a game-high 34 points, while Klay Thompson added 21 points and Draymond Green had a 10-point, 10-rebound, 10-assist triple-double in the loss.

- Extra spicy: Pascal Siakam made his first ever Finals game one to remember, scoring a playoff career-high 32 points in 40 minutes. “Well, Siakam was brilliant,” Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said after the game. “He was hitting shots from everywhere.” Not only was Siakam hitting from everywhere, he shot with ridiculous accuracy, making 14-of-17 shots, including 2-of-3 three-pointers and both of his free-throw attempts. He didn’t just score, either. Siakam also added eight rebounds, five assists, a steal and two blocked shots in the win. Siakam was asked about his own basketball journey and how it felt to have that kind of performance on the NBA’s biggest stage in his Finals debut. He said that the work he’s put in to get to this point as well as knowing that he has more room to improve makes it fun. “It's amazing,” he said. “And it just proves that if you put the work in, man, it’s something that is so cliché most of the time, but that's the story of my life.”

- Working it out: The Raptors knew that their defensive effort would be crucial heading into this series with the Warriors. Golden State’s sharpshooting combined with the speed at which they get down the floor after makes and misses alike meant Toronto’s defence would need to be on point. The Raptors have been exceptional on the defensive end of the floor in the first three rounds of the 2019 postseason. After holding the Warriors to 44 percent shooting in Game 1, Toronto is now 11-3 when holding its opponent under 45 percent shooting in the postseason. Coincidentally, Toronto’s 41.8 percent opponent field goal percentage is the lowest since the Warriors held opponents to 41.7 percent shooting during their 2015 run. “They remind me of us in a lot of ways,” Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said during a media availability on Friday afternoon. “When you've got a team that can push the ball from a lot of different positions, make plays from a lot of different positions and plays fast, you've got to be vigilant every possession.”


- Doing it all: Kawhi Leonard shot 5-for-14 from the floor in Game 1 for 23 points, but despite a sub-par shooting night by his standards, he was still a team-best +11 in the game thanks in large part to his quick decision making under pressure. In addition to scoring, Leonard contributed across the board with eight rebounds, five assists and a steal, but it was his ability to read the defence and make the correct read that helped his teammates get open looks they were able to convert. “He’s done a great job facilitating and finding guys,” Danny Green said. “Breaking down the defence, swinging the ball. Pascal [Siakam] got some open ones at the rim [from Kawhi]. Marc [Gasol] got some open ones. And we got some open ones on the perimeter too.” Leonard has 21 assists in his last three games, all Raptors wins. “I come into the game just trying to win,” Leonard said. “If I have my mind set on just trying to score the ball, yeah, [the extra defensive attention] could be difficult. But I'm trying to make the right play out there, and obviously if there are two people on me, somebody is open.” Leonard is averaging 30.7 points, 8.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.5 steals per game in the postseason.

The 2018-19 NBA season has reached its culmination, and it's the Toronto Raptors taking on the Golden State Warriors for Game 1 of NBA Finals at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada.

The Warriors are well rested after a clean sweep of the Portland Trail Blazers, whereas the Raptors made their way past the Bucks after a gritty 6-game series.

Let us see how things stand for both the teams ahead of the first clash of the finals.

The Golden State Warriors' perspective

No Kevin Durant, No DeMarcus Cousins, the Warriors still swept the Portland Trail Blazers in the Western Conference Finals. The trio of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green were too hot to handle for their opponents, and they will be willing to put on another show at the Scotiabank arena on Thursday.

Stephen Curry came alive in the absence of Durant and took the load of scoring on his shoulders, shooting 6.3 treys per game. He averaged 36.5 points against the Blazers, grabbing 8.3 rebounds and dishing 7.3 assists per game. His partner in crime, Klay Thompson, averaged 21.5 points per game and produced some considerable performances to make an impact. However, he shot just 37.8% from the field which would be an area to improve upon in the Finals.

A lot will also depend on Draymond green if one of the above guards experiences a bad day. Green has been exceptional all-around, and same will be expected him in the Finals. With Durant ruled out for the Game 1 due to Calf Injury, I expect Andre Iguodala to start the game for the Warriors. Also, Andrew Bogut will be the preferred option against Marc Gasol.

The Toronto Raptors' perspective

After being down by two games in the Conference Finals against the Bucks, the Raptors never looked back, winning the next four fair and square. This win shows the character and the temperament of this coagulated squad which looks in great shape.

Kawhi Leonard is the flag-bearer for the Raptors and his numbers commensurate with the fact. He has been exceptional on both the ends of the floor, averaging 29.8 points, dishing 4.3 assists and grabbing 9.5 rebounds per game. Pascal Siakkam has supported him well with 14.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game but shot just 20% from beyond the three-point line. He will be willing to better the numbers this time around.

Kyle Lowry and Fred VanVleet are two crucial pieces to this Raptors' puzzle, and with them in rhythm, things get smooth and easy for the squad. Also, Serge Ibaka and Norman Powell contributing from the bench further reduces pressure off Leonard's shoulders.

How things might unfold
Durant's absence had no degrading effect for the Warriors as they routed the Blazers in Conference Finals. However, this Raptors team is no fluke. They have a well-balanced squad with high-calibre players like Serge Ibaka and Norman Powell coming off the bench.

Defensively, the Raptors are an exceptional team. So, I expect them to give hard times to lights of Curry and Thompson. With shooters out of the picture, the Warriors have a little chance in Toronto this time around.
